ISLAMIC, Fatimids. al-Amir bi-Ahkam Allah, AH 495-524 / AD 1101-1130. Dinar (Gold, 20 mm, 4.36 g, 6 h), Misr, AH 518 = 1124/5. Central inscription, ‘ʿāl / ghāya’ (‘Extremely high [quality]’ in Arabic); inner margin, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh Muḥammad rasūl Allāh ʿAlī walī Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Ali is the friend of Allah’ in Arabic); outer margin, ‘Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-dīn kullih wa law kariha al-mushrikūn’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions, even though the unbelievers may dislike it’ in Arabic). Rev. Central inscription, ‘al-imām al-Manṣūr’ (‘Imam al-Mansur’ in Arabic); continuation of the title in the inner margin, ‘Abū ʿAlī al-ʾĀmir bi-Aḥkām Allāh amīr al-muʾminīn’ (‘Abu ʿAlī, al-ʾAmir bi-Ahkam Allah [= He who commands Allah’s decrees], the Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic); outer margin, ‘bism Allāh al-raḥmān al-raḥīm ḍuriba hādhā al-dīnār bi Miṣr sana thamān ʿashra wa khamsa miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. This dinar was struck in Misr in the year 518’ in Arabic). Album 729. Boldly struck and lustrous. Very light doubling, otherwise, good extremely fine.
